About Us – Who are Lions?

The Thame and District Lions Club are proud to be part of the world’s largest service club organization, Lions Clubs International.

Founded on June 7, 1917, the Lions have become renowned for both integrity and transparency and, with over 46,000 Lions Clubs, and more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries (and geographic areas) worldwide, we are one of the more effective organisations in doing whatever is needed to help their local communities.

About Us – Thame and District Lions?

Our club was established in 1977 and consist of men and women from all walks of life who are dedicated to helping their community.

By holding regular fundraising events, we are able to assist the local community with donations, assistance or much needed equipment.

We are, however, limited in the scope of our activities by man power (not enthusiasm!) so attracting new members (and “Friends of Lions”) is paramount and we welcome interested people with the same outlook and willingness to be involved.

Our fundraising is varied and includes the Santa Sleigh at Christmas, mulled wine for the Christmas Lights turn on, providing car park control for the main Town Events, the Annual Fair and helping with the Music in the Park. We also raise money with Quiz evenings, concerts and other social outings and events, all helping to support the club’s activities.

Do donations pay for the running of the club?

No money raised through donations or collections is used to fund the club. It all goes to good causes.

Can I come along?

We meet on the 1st Wednesday of every month at The James Figg, 21 Cornmarket, Thame, Oxon, OX9 2BL. Please come and join us, see what we do and how we make a difference to the community of Thame.

Friends of the Lions Club also most welcome!
